The Orange County Equestrian Center has a long rich history within the Orange County community. Read below to learn more about the centers long lasting legacy.
Our History
The Orange County Equestrian Center stands as a testament to the agricultural history and heritage of our local community. Horses have played a significant role in California Fairs throughout the 1900s, contributing to the equine tradition in the region. Horses have been an integral part of Orange County’s origins beginning more than 200 years ago when cattle ranching was the backbone of our economy.
In 1980, a 15-acre Equestrian Center was established in the northeast section of the Orange County Fairgrounds. This facility became a hub for accessible horse-related activities, catering to children, families, equestrians, and the broader Orange County community.
Regrettably, in 2003, the Equestrian Center faced a setback as half of its land was repurposed for a parking lot, reducing its size by half from 15 acres to 7.5 acres.
Preserving Our Equestrian Heritage
Despite this challenge, the Equestrian Center has persevered, aligning its services with the mission of the OC Fair & Event Center, also known as the 32nd District Agricultural Association. It remains dedicated to constructing, maintaining, and operating recreational and cultural facilities of public interest in Orange County.
